Woodpecker Youth Club Carnival Programme
This Carnival-inspired programme for young people aged 10-18 years offers a variety of creative workshops and courses throughout the year, each lasting six or eight weeks. These vary from gymnastics to music production to fashion design. All of the creative workshops will build-up to a winter showcase in December – produced and created by the young people involved. The programme explores everyday issues and struggles through carnival, culture and the creative arts.
Music with Beats Lab
Create unique original music in the styles you love using loops and samples with the relevant Carnival flavours from many cultures (Africa, Caribbean, Latin America and London). Work as a producer with professional musicians and other local young people to achieve a number of polished tracks, using Logic (professional music programming software). You’ll be encouraged, as a team, to write as well as produce in whatever your preferred musical style is, including Trap, Drill, Hip Hop, Afrobeats, Grime and R&B and record your own vocal/lyrical ideas. Rappers and singers welcome with writing help provided. Not even the sky is your limit! Be a part of group writing sessions, learn to use production techniques and FX such as autotune and filters, gain opportunities to try out midi instruments and be a part of our (online) carnival sharing events.

Dance Workshop
Come and join our dance workshop with GDND dance where you can learn and expand on different dance styles such as Street and Break dance. This class will centre around technique, choreography and performance skills. You will be working with other young people with different abilities which will help build on your own dance skills, and together working towards a carnival inspired performance.

Drama Workshop
Come and join our drama workshops with Uncover drama, giving you the opportunity to work with professional artists to encourage and develop your drama skills. There is no specific experience required, just time and commitment! These workshops surround the theme of Carnival including many different cultures and targeted themes. You will be working as a team to decide on the theme and piece you would like to perform in a carnival inspired performance.
